Step-by-Step Detailed Crochet Instructions

1. Begin with the Foundation Chain

  1. Create a slip knot on your hook.
  2. Crochet a chain with a total stitch count that is a multiple of 3.
    • Example: For this tutorial, chain 30 stitches.

2. Round 1

  1. Starting in the third chain from the hook, make:
    • 1 single crochet
    • Chain 1
    • 1 double crochet
  2. Skip the next 2 chains, and repeat the following sequence:
    • 1 single crochet
    • Chain 1
    • 1 double crochet
  3. At the end of the row, you will work 1 single crochet in the last stitch.
  4. This completes Round 1.

3. Round 2

  1. Chain 1 and turn your work.
  2. Work into each chain-1 space (skip the stitches, focus only on the spaces):
    • 1 single crochet
    • Chain 1
    • 1 double crochet
  3. Repeat this pattern across the row, always working into the chain-1 spaces.
  4. At the end of the row:
    • Work 1 single crochet into the final stitch (not the space).

4. Repeat the Stitch Pattern

  1. Simply repeat Round 2 for the entire project until your washcloth reaches your desired size.
    • You can measure against another washcloth or test with your hands for size.

5. Finishing the Washcloth

  1. After completing the desired number of rows, end the washcloth with the following steps:

    • Chain 12 (to create a hanging loop, optional).
    • Attach the loop by making a slip stitch in the last stitch.
    • Chain 1 and cut the yarn.
  2. Pull the loose end of the yarn through the last loop on your hook, and pull tight to fasten off.
  3. Use a yarn needle to weave in the loose ends neatly.
