Finished Size & Customization Ideas:

Approximate Finished Size:

  • Width: 34 cm (approximately).
  • Height from bottom to armpit: 21.5 cm.
  • Strap height: Can be adjusted based on preference (56 rows for the provided design).
  • Circumference can vary depending on your chain foundation sizing.

Customization Ideas:

  • Size Adjustments:
    • Use different starting chain lengths to adjust the circumference (chain length should match your chest circumference in a slightly stretched form).
    • Ensure the initial chain is divisible by 7—each flower motif consists of 7 stitches.
    • The height can be adjusted by adding or reducing rows of double or half-double crochet.
  • Yarn Weight:
    • Light DK-weight yarn for a more delicate, lacy look.
    • Chunky yarn for a thicker, warmer top.
  • Color Variations:
    • Use multicolored yarn for a gradient or striped effect.
    • Alternate flower colors for a fun pop.
  • Strap Style:
    • Thicker shoulder straps (use 7-10 stitches instead of 5).
    • Create halter straps instead of shoulder straps for a different aesthetic.
  • Edging Options:
    • Add a scalloped edge around the hem or neckline for enhanced detail.
    • You can also finish the edges with slip stitches for a tighter structure.

Step-by-Step Crochet Instructions:

1. Foundation Chain:

  1. Measure your chest circumference (above the bust).
  2. Create a chain of air loops matching this measurement in a slightly stretched form.
    • Make sure the chain length is divisible by 7.
    • Example: For a circumference of 80.5 cm, the chain was 105 chains in slightly stretched form.
  3. Join the chain into a circle with a sl st, ensuring the chain doesn't twist.

2. Row 1 (Treble Circle Base):

  1. Chain 4 (counts as your first stitch).
  2. Work 1 treble crochet (tr) into each stitch around.
    • Total stitch count should match your foundation chain.
  3. Join the row with a sl st.

3. Row 2 (First Flower Layer):

  1. Switch to pink yarn and smaller hook (3.5mm).
  2. Attach pink yarn into the 4th upper loop of your base row.
  3. Work flower motif:
    a. Chain 10.
    b. In the 5th chain from the hook, work 3 treble crochets (leaving the last loop of each treble unworked).
    c. Join all treble crochets to create a petal.
    d. Turn work and begin creating the next petals: Insert the hook and work 4 treble stitches into subsequent chain loops.
  4. Complete the petals of the flower shape.
  5. Repeat the flower motif in every 7 stitches around the row.

4. Row 3 (Upper Petals):

  1. Chain 5 and turn.
  2. Work petals in the flowers as follows:
    • Yarn over twice, insert into the center of the flower, and create the first petal (4 treble crochets joined together).
    • Chain 3 between petals (inside the same flower).
  3. Between flowers, chain 2.
  4. Repeat this sequence all the way around.

Save

5. Row 4 (Return Base):

  1. Switch back to green yarn and the 4mm crochet hook.
  2. Starting at the first "petal arch," work half-double crochet (hdc) stitches as follows:
    • 3 hdc in the spaces between petals.
    • 2 hdc in the spaces between flowers.
    • Continue this until the end of the row.

6. Body of Top:

  1. From this point, alternate rows of double crochet (dc) and half-double crochet (hdc) to build height.
    • Chain 3 at the start of dc rows.
    • Chain 2 at the start of hdc rows.
  2. The number of rows for the body depends on your preferred length.
    • In the tutorial, 12 rows were completed (total height: 16.5 cm).

7. Second Flower Row (Armpit Decoration):

  1. Repeat the flower motif row (as done previously) to create a visually appealing break before the straps.
  2. Follow the same sequence as Rows 2-4 for this row.

Save

8. Strap Creation:

  1. Decide where to place your straps.
    • The example uses 3 flowers between front straps and 2 flowers between back straps.
  2. Work single crochet (sc) stitches for the straps:
    • 5 sts wide for thinner straps, 7+ sts for thicker straps.
  3. Crochet until desired strap length is achieved.
    • Example: 56 rows.
  4. Attach straps to the appropriate points on the back using a yarn needle and secure tightly.

9. Finishing Touches:

  1. Work slip stitches between flower edges and along the hem for added detail if desired.
  2. Weave in all loose ends with a needle.
  3. Block the top gently for the best finished look.

Final Notes:

  • The final dimension of the top can vary based on yarn type, tension, and size.
  • Be creative by altering the yarn colors or experimenting with flower sizes.
  • This design is beginner-friendly, with a few intermediate elements like treble crochet and seamless joining.
