Step by Step Pattern

Tools and materials:

  • Cotton yarn - size 8/4, in the following colors:
  • White
  • Red
  • Light grey
  • Scissors
  • Hook number 2.5
  • Sewing needle
  • Fiber fill

Abbreviations:

  • mr - magic ring
  • sc - single crochet in US (double crochet in UK)
  • inc - increase (2 single crochet in one stitch)
  • dec - decrease (2 single crochet together)
  • ch - chain
  • slst - slip stitch

Life preserver:

  • Use white color yarn.
  • 1. ch36, slst into the 1st chain to make s circle (36)
  • 2. ch1, '5sc, inc' x 6 (42)
  • 3. ch1, '6sc, inc' x 6 (48)
  • 4. ch1, '7sc, inc' x 6 (54)
  • 5. ch1, '8sc,inc' x 6 (60)
  • 6. - 9. ch1, sc around (60)
  • 10. ch1, '8sc, dec' x 6 (54)
  • 11. ch1, '7sc, dec' x 6 (48)
  • 12. ch1, '6sc, dec' x 6 (42)
  • 13. ch1, '5sc, dec' x 6 (36)
  • 14. - 17. ch1, sc around (36)

Fold your work, it should look like a donut. Make sure you have the front side on the outside.
Sew together R1 to R17. Make sure to fill your work as you sew and make sure the filling is distributed evenly.

Red stripes x 4:

Use red color yarn.

  • 1. ch22, turn, starting from the 2nd chain from the hook, 21sc
  • 2. 4. ch1, turn, 21 sc

Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Sew the 2 ends together around the life preserver, so it is like a ring and can move.
Repeat for the other 3 stripes.

Rope:

Use light grey color yarn or color of choice.

  • 1. ch90
  • Sew one end onto the other side of the life preserver.
  • With the other end, go under all 4 stripes and sew onto the same place as the 1st end. Place ont of the stripes over it.
  • Arrange all stripes, so you have 2 horizontal and 2 vertical.
  • Move the rope so it is comes out evenly between all stripes.
